ABOUT FRESNEL LENS
The Fresnel lens was invented
by French physicist Augustine Fresnel, the Augustin Fresnel first used this lens
design to build a glass Fresnel lens - lighthouse lens in 1822.
The Fresnel lens is a thin, flat optical lens which consists of a series of
small narrow concentric grooves on the surface of a lightweight plastic sheet in
order to reduce the thickness, weight and cost. Each groove is at a slightly
different angle than the next and with the same focal length in order to focus
the light toward a central focal point. Every groove can be considered as an
individual small lens to bend parallel Fresnel light waves and focus the light.
The lens actually eliminates some spherical aberration.

Installation of Fresnel lens or Super Screen
1. Remove the focusing screen back from the camera and then
remove any exterior components from the back.
2. Remove retaining screws, clips and gaskets - remove old
screen. Remember the assembly order of the original
components.
3. Blow any dust off the screen and insert matte surface side
towards lens.
4. Lay glass cover plate on top. Inspect for any trapped dust or
lint.
5. Center in frame, reinsert gaskets, clips and screws. Screw
finger tight with correct size jeweler’s screwdriver.
The focusing screen goes where the ground glass used to be. The antireflective
glass cover plate goes between the Fresnel lens and your eye.
(For 4x5 view cameras only)
1. Remove the focusing screen back from the camera and then remove
any exterior components from the back, such as the hood, etc.
2. Remove retaining screws, clips and gaskets – remove old screen.
Remember the assembly order of the original components.
3. Blow any dust off the screen. Place the focusing screen (matte
side facing towards the eye) in the frame. This piece takes the place
of the original Fresnel lens.
4. Lay the glass cover plate on tope of the matte surface. Inspect for
any trapped dust or lint.
5. Center in frame, reinsert gaskets, clips and screws. Screw finger
tight with correct size jeweler’s screwdriver.
